thierry mugler 2011 feat lady gaga

Paris-based fashion house, Thierry Mugler has tapped Lady Gaga’s stylist, Nicola Formichetti, as the new creative director for their ready-to-wear lines. For Mugler’s 2011 Winter Menswear campaign, the Lady remixed an unreleased song from her upcoming album, (due out in May) which debuted on the 19th at the anticipated show during Men’s Fashion Week.

The video was shot specifically for the show and directed by fashion photographer, Mariano Vivanco. Featured, is famous Canadian model, “Zombie Boy”, Rick Genest.

I, for one, like the dark aesthetic of the campaign. True to Mugler style, it’s extravagant, emotional and a bit wondrous.

i heart shopstyle

if you love shopping – or even just browsing – then you’ve got to love shopstyle. it makes bargain hunting, or searching for that item you “have to have” super easy. just hit up the site, type in what you’re looking for, even narrow it down  (i.e. size, color, price range, etc) and the site will bring back every item for sale online that it’s aware of… right to your desktop.

no insane site searching, all the annoying work is done for you so you can sit back and browse all your options right there in one spot.

even more, they hook you up with celebrity trends, your own style book, and email alerts for when your fav brands go on sale.

and if you’re an iphone addict with a short attention span like me, you’ll probably want shopstyle mobile to keep you occupied when you’re bored and have got no catalogs or mags to flip through.

pretty sweet if you ask me. now, i’m off to find that banded mini i’ve been coveting…

satc2

so im off to see sex and the city 2 tonight with some girlfriends of mine. should be a good night, even if the movie hasn’t had the greatest reviews. i love satc, probably have seen each episode 10 times and can never tire of the characters, and surely, not of the fashion. granted, carrie looks were often over the top and a little quirky, but can you imagine the fun she has had, given the privilege of her job to wear fashion as art?

speaking of which, can we pleaseee talk about the absolutely, unbelievable, incredibly luxuriously feminine and amazing versace dress she wore in the first movie? seriously, how beautiful was that dress?

so needless to say, not only am i happy to spend a few hours with my girlfriends revisiting old characters, i’m most excited to see what a $10 million dollar wardrobe budget looks like…

g:40 the summit

We’re very proud to announce that our founder and creative director, Joe Hodnicki, was asked to showcase his linoprint art at the G:40 Summit, as one of the 500 featured artists from around the world!

This event will feature 75,000 sq ft of exhibition space with 4 floors of art! Each floor will represent different hot hubs of the New Brow movement: The DC, New York, and California metro areas, plus one all encompassing floor for international and other regional artists. Visitors of G-40: The Summit will, for the first time, be able to experience entire floors showcasing artists from these regions, and because of this set up, connect the dots of how the different sub-cultures and environs affect the art. From the laid back California Style, to the fast paced New York way of living, the art will bring a fresh visual perspective that words cannot provide. With all the different styles in one place the New Brow movement, now growing and expanding worldwide, will be more comprehensible to the viewer, finally defining the line between the movement’s beginnings to its future. A movement that currently exists without much literature or founding in “traditional” institutions, yet includes some of the most highly recognizable and sought after art in the world, will inevitably become a major player in the intellectual and mainstream art world.

You can find Joe’s work on the 5th floor, dedicated to the New York/Metro Artists.

alexander mcqueen 1969-2010

alexander mcqueen was unexpectedly, and tragically, found dead in his home today at the age of 40. he will be sorely missed by his family and friends and the world over, as we have lost one of the most iconic designers of all time.

known for displaying his fascination of psychology through his designs and shows, mcqueen’s style, has always been incredibly provocative and intriguing, with a touch of madness. nonethless, his powerful designs were never anything less than impressive.

20% to pandang – okoto archive

As many of you know, on Wednesday September 30, a 7.6 earthquake hit Sumatra. Our friends at SurfAid International have launched an Emergency Response Appeal to help the people of Padang.

There has been extensive damage and many homes, buildings, schools and hospitals have been destroyed. The death toll stands at 704, as reported by the Associates Press, with many people injured and still missing.

OKOTO+relief is in the process of developing a platform that allows our customers to donate to the non-profit of their choice with every OKOTO purchase. But, until we launch our next level OKOTO+relief, we will now be donating 20% of proceeds from every sale at OKOTO.com to support SurfAid’s relief efforts in Indonesia.

If you would like to donate directly to the Padang Earthquake Relief Appeal, you can do so here.
