I’ve got to have it! It’s from OPI and Katy Perry, and is due out mid-January. I’m super curious to see what the shatter effect will look like… and the endless possibilities it’ll give me with my almost-but-never-too-many polishes. For those of you who don’t know what black shatter does… you paint it on over any existing polish, and as it dries, it starts to separate, leaving a crackled, broken coat of black polish on top. sounds like fun, right? I wonder if OPI will go ahead and make other colors of shatter in the future?
wtf?!
i could go on and on about how disgusting i find all this, how sad it is for our earth, and how bp’s oil spill only highlights mankind at his worst… but what’s the point?
for most of us, we all feel the same sort of sadness and disappointment when this topic arises, and unfortunately don’t have much power to change or prevent the environmental, economic and political effects this disaster will have on our generation, and generations to come. all i can say is i’m sorry those “big” people don’t have what it takes to be responsible for much more than cashing their checks and making their shareholders happy, not even after 30 years. you’d think that maybe, just maybe, they may have tried to learn from their own selfish mistakes. that might just be too much to ask, though.
check out this clip from the rachel maddow show. really interesting, and incredibly frustrating…
ipod 4
yeah, so umm… apparently i am a gadget junkie now, too. i love my iphone and very quickly fell for the iphone 4.
needless to say, i stopped by my local at&t store and pre-ordered mine. i’m pretty friggen excited, and can’t wait to come home from my vacation to have it waiting for me :)
i heart shopstyle
if you love shopping – or even just browsing – then you’ve got to love shopstyle. it makes bargain hunting, or searching for that item you “have to have” super easy. just hit up the site, type in what you’re looking for, even narrow it down (i.e. size, color, price range, etc) and the site will bring back every item for sale online that it’s aware of… right to your desktop.
no insane site searching, all the annoying work is done for you so you can sit back and browse all your options right there in one spot.
even more, they hook you up with celebrity trends, your own style book, and email alerts for when your fav brands go on sale.
and if you’re an iphone addict with a short attention span like me, you’ll probably want shopstyle mobile to keep you occupied when you’re bored and have got no catalogs or mags to flip through.
pretty sweet if you ask me. now, i’m off to find that banded mini i’ve been coveting…
satc2
so im off to see sex and the city 2 tonight with some girlfriends of mine. should be a good night, even if the movie hasn’t had the greatest reviews. i love satc, probably have seen each episode 10 times and can never tire of the characters, and surely, not of the fashion. granted, carrie looks were often over the top and a little quirky, but can you imagine the fun she has had, given the privilege of her job to wear fashion as art?
speaking of which, can we pleaseee talk about the absolutely, unbelievable, incredibly luxuriously feminine and amazing versace dress she wore in the first movie? seriously, how beautiful was that dress?
so needless to say, not only am i happy to spend a few hours with my girlfriends revisiting old characters, i’m most excited to see what a $10 million dollar wardrobe budget looks like…
a day to remember
One of my older brothers, Vincent, had a post on his Facebook today saying, “A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life made a check payable to ‘The United States of America’ for an amount of ‘up to and including his life’ “.
It made me think, as these sorts of things do, of the veterans in my life and those I do not know, and how much they’re willing to sacrifice for our country.
I’m not really one for politics, and to be completely honest, don’t really know our country’s history like I should. But, I always want to learn more, hear more and understand more. I do think it’s our duty as citizens to, whether or not we “support” war, that we support our soldiers. Listening and learning are simple ways to do just that.
So aside from the many parties and picnics I’ve shared with my friends and family, I’d like to honor this weekend by mentioning the men close to me that I admire and love, who have served for our country:
My Great Grandfather Aurelio Sciscione was wounded by mustard gas while fighting in the US Army Infantry in France during World War I.
My Great Uncle Bill Sciscione served in the US Army during WWII and was stationed in the Philippines.
My Great Uncle Phil “Sonny” Sciscione fought in the 25th Infantry during the Korean War.
My Great Uncle Dominic “Duke” Mele was a combat soldier during WWII, stationed in the Pacific, where he badly wounded his hand, and lost a finger.
My Great Uncle’s Angelo “Dave”, Tony, Joe and Vincent “Jimmy” Lombardi (all brothers) fought overseas during the Second World War.
My Great Uncle Jimmy, the youngest of all four, gave his life during the battle of Leyte Gulf.
My Grandfather, Joe Sciscione, served in the navy during World War II, and gave witness to the surrender of the Japanese on the US Battleship Missouri.
My Uncle Joe Sciscione served in the Navy on a PT Boat in the swamps of Vietnam.
And my dear friend, Matt Colvin, who has served 2 tours in Afghanistan as a flight commander for the U.S. Airforce.
I thank you and appreciate all you have done to make sure we never have to go through what you have.
beautiful sunday
there’s just something about the sound of leaves in the breeze, especially on a warm, sunny day like today…
i just find the sound so calming. much like the ocean, it makes me feel content just to be where i am.
and for the record… that perfect tree in the middle of the lawn… that is my most favorite tree in the world. he’s handsome and strong, simple and balanced. and i just adore him.
i hope everyone enjoys their sunday today. now i’m off to go to listen to those leaves until my little one comes home.
the big 28
so i spent my birthday pretty low key, at home with the family and celebrating with my little bear. it was a very nice way to bring in my 28th year.
yesterday, i headed into the city for a day with my loves to eat, drink, shop and celebrate. there isn’t much more to a perfect day for me than that.
kris and i at slane nyc.
handmade cigars at cuba nyc, where the food was just insanely delicious! seriously, i’m counting the days til i get back there again. the atmosphere was almost as awesome as the birthday cake ;)
i picked up same random things for the house at anthropologie (their stores never ceases to impress me with their decor – soooo beautiful!) and was stoked to get a pair of steve madden axee boots – which i have been wanting since i’ve seen them on kris’s feet months ago.
g:40 the summit
We’re very proud to announce that our founder and creative director, Joe Hodnicki, was asked to showcase his linoprint art at the G:40 Summit, as one of the 500 featured artists from around the world!
This event will feature 75,000 sq ft of exhibition space with 4 floors of art! Each floor will represent different hot hubs of the New Brow movement: The DC, New York, and California metro areas, plus one all encompassing floor for international and other regional artists. Visitors of G-40: The Summit will, for the first time, be able to experience entire floors showcasing artists from these regions, and because of this set up, connect the dots of how the different sub-cultures and environs affect the art. From the laid back California Style, to the fast paced New York way of living, the art will bring a fresh visual perspective that words cannot provide. With all the different styles in one place the New Brow movement, now growing and expanding worldwide, will be more comprehensible to the viewer, finally defining the line between the movement’s beginnings to its future. A movement that currently exists without much literature or founding in “traditional” institutions, yet includes some of the most highly recognizable and sought after art in the world, will inevitably become a major player in the intellectual and mainstream art world.
You can find Joe’s work on the 5th floor, dedicated to the New York/Metro Artists.

alexander mcqueen 1969-2010
alexander mcqueen was unexpectedly, and tragically, found dead in his home today at the age of 40. he will be sorely missed by his family and friends and the world over, as we have lost one of the most iconic designers of all time.
known for displaying his fascination of psychology through his designs and shows, mcqueen’s style, has always been incredibly provocative and intriguing, with a touch of madness. nonethless, his powerful designs were never anything less than impressive.
